Dear Dear Evan Hansen,

Two years.  730 calendar days. That is not a lot of time.  How remarkable that just a scant two years go by and boom, I find our 14-year-old twins to be absolutely on target to appreciate and love the exposed nerve that is Dear Evan Hansen…

Grab Your Group and TOUR The High Line

Like most New Yorkers I have walked The Highline numerous times.  While I have “done” The Highline, what I “did” was in a completely uninformed and clueless manner, scurrying by various historic landmarks and utterly missing the point of this resurrected gift to NYC. Going on a tour was a completely different experience…

Grab Your Group and GO vs. Grab Your Group and WAIT

The group on stage at the Iceman Cometh led me to contemplate what it means when I say “Grab Your Group and GO”. The characters in this Eugene O’Neill play represent the antithesis of grabbing your group and going. This is a group that gathers and stays and waits…

Grab your Nice Group and GO SEE Mean Girls on Broadway

Regina George (aka Taylor Louderman) can sing.  And rock a fat suit.  And command a stage.  And she can be really, really mean, which was her job as head Plastic.  I loved her.  I loved her honesty, her fearless nature and her confidence.  And when her sound system went kaput towards the end of the show I loved her even more…

Grab your Group and Go See Carousel

Carousel landed firmly on my radar when I learned that Jessie Mueller and Renee Fleming were headlining the show.  This is the third time the theater group has gathered to see the always enchanting Jessie Mueller.  We saw her first in Beautiful in February of 2015 and again in Waitress in April 2016 where she handily debuted both roles.  Once Ms. Mueller was coupled with the serious singing chops of opera phenom Renee Fleming, I knew the show was a safe bet. While these outsize talents did not disappoint it is the dancing and the lighting that are my two reasons for highly recommending this show….

Grab your Brother and GO SEE BRUCE!

I had the opportunity to see Springsteen on Broadway with my brother, the person who introduced me to Bruce’s music so many years ago in the quaint Cleveland suburb of Shaker Heights. It was a surreal night that I am so grateful I was able to experience…

A Thematic Theater Trifecta

Not sure what I was thinking by scheduling three Broadway shows directly on the heels of a long trip to Japan, but I am certain I must have thought it was a good idea at the time.  In fact it was a very good idea…

Grab Your Group and TOUR the Apollo Theater in Harlem

Today I got to meet (and sing with) Mr. Apollo aka Billy Mitchell, the Tour Director/In House Historian/Apollo Ambassador, at the one and only Apollo Theater in Harlem. To say that Mr. Mitchell was a treasure trove of information regarding all things Apollo would be a woeful misrepresentation of the term. Billy Mitchell is a walking, talking embodiment of the Apollo Theater…
