Itinerary

DAY 1 & 2

Bienvenue en France! After meeting we shuttle to the area of Dinan, a medieval town perched on the banks of the Rance River. In a picturesque hamlet nearby, we enjoy a lunch of local specialties. Then we set out on your first two-wheel adventure in Brittany. The route follows the Rance estuary, meandering along riverbanks and through small port areas.

On day 2 we board a ferry for the quick crossing to St-Malo, a fortified ocean-side city once notorious as a refuge of corsairs (licensed pirates in the employ of the king). Hop on your bike to spin along the coast and the breezy headlands to the Bay of Mont-St-Michel and the quaint fishing town of Cancale, the oyster capital of Brittany.

Stay: Le Grand Hôtel Barrière Dinard

DAYS 3 & 4

We start day 3 with a shuttle to the island monastery Mont-St-Michel. Arriving before most tourists, we get a real sense of the power of these hallowed grounds, which have attracted the faithful from throughout the Christian world for centuries. After a shuttle to the Norman countryside, we enjoy a lunch of local specialties then hop on our bikes to enjoy views from the open fields followed by rolling green hills.

Day 4 starts with a tour of Omaha Beach with a local historian. It’s only natural to be moved by the memories of the events that occurred along today’s route, but you might also be taken in by the striking landscape. Green rolling pastures, quiet villages, rambling beaches and rugged cliffs that provide the backdrop for our ride in the Bessin.

Stay: Hotel Villa Lara

DAY 5 &6

Day 5’s route takes us on quiet country roads to seaside Arromanches and Gold Beach and Courseulles-sur-Mer, where you can stop for lunch. The afternoon our spin along the coast towards Sword Beach leads to Pegasus Bridge, whose capture by British troops in the early hours of D-Day was a major triumph for the Allies.

On our last morning we take one last spin with Backroads. We’ll head out of town on a scenic route that features glimpses of the Pays d’Auge landscape and rolling hills.

Stay: Hotels Barriere Le Normandy
