Hello Group!
Have you watched this video six times like I have? 🙂 It is the loveliest, most lovable, love letter in the form of a riff on a beloved old favorite to the town many of us are lucky enough to call home: New York City.
The video is graced with the voices and faces of many of our favorites, Sara Bareilles and Kelli O’Hara for example. And it is clear Tom Kitt played a MAJOR role in its creation, but it is our city itself that is the star of the show. For those of us who live there, the city IS the star of all of our shows. We are all the supporting actors. I for one look forward to being back in the city soon in support of it and all it has to offer.
Who is ready to support Broadway and NYC with me?
Let’s baby step our way back to Broadway with one play and two musicals: Letters of Suresh, Waitress (with Sara Bareilles) and Caroline, or Change. Let’s GO!
September 29th @8:00pm Join me off-Broadway for the compelling play Letters of Suresh
In Letters of Suresh, playwright Rajiv Joseph reveals intimate mysteries through a series of letters between strangers, friends, daughters, and lovers — many with little in common but a hunger for human connection. A companion piece to Joseph’s play Animals Out of Paper, Letters Of Suresh, directed by May Adrales, is the latest work from the Pulitzer Prize-short listed playwright hailed as “wonderfully daring, imaginative, and compassionate” (The New York Times)This play is a Second Stage production. Second Stage’s driving purpose is to support LIVING AMERICAN PLAYWRIGHTS. I love this purpose – let’s support it. The play will be in the Tony Kiser Theater (not a bad seat in the house). And we will have dinner at Marseille before. Turn key thought provoking night. Click here to grab your ticket(s).
October 12th @7:00pm Join me and Adrienne F. at Waitress with the aforementioned Sara Bareilles. This will be Adrienne’s first time (which is criminal). If you have not seen Sara Bareilles in this role, NOW is the time to do it. The super endearing and wildly talented Sara, who wrote the words and the music, is ending her run the following weekend. You are essentially getting a sweet (and spicy) show AND a concert. When we went to see her last time our tickets were triple this price. We will be in Mezzanine 2 cheering our hearts out for this heart filled show and heart endearing performance. Click here to read about our experience seeing this show with Sara as the lead. I know this is a school night but if your teens have not seen this show it a must GO. A sweet time will be had by all. Click here to join.
October 19th @ 8:00pm Really happy to have this one on my calendar: Caroline, or Change.
This fall, an American musical masterpiece makes its long-awaited return to Broadway. For 13 weeks only, audiences have the chance to witness Sharon D Clarke’s Olivier Award-winning performance in CAROLINE, OR CHANGE. Clarke brings this indelible heroine to “incandescent” life (Time Out London), in a production that launches to “the titanic dimensions of greatness” (The New York Times). From Pulitzer Prize winner Tony Kushner and Tony Award winner Jeanine Tesori comes the show that pulses with the urgency and passion that’s shaping the world today. The time for CAROLINE, OR CHANGE has arrived.
Chills! Let’s GO! Studio 54. Great prices for our tickets. and lots of fun places to eat near there. OOH exciting. Click here to join.
Also around town….
I wanted to explain a bit about our newest Grab Your Group and Go offering: CURATED WALKS. A good friend over dinner recently asked me what her ticket $ for the Curated Walks through Riverside Park was going towards. Super fair question. Here is my truncated answer…(she has since bought a ticket). 🙂
To prepare for these walks there are hours and hours of work by both myself and whomever I have teamed up with – in this case Joyce. We have already visited the site, mapped out the walk, and commenced our respective research processes. Similar to what I did for Central Park last summer I am researching and researching all I can about Riverside Park as Joyce is learning all she can about each installation and the associated artist. Then we will both distill this massive amount of information we have gathered into salient, interesting tidbits that will be parsed out over the course of our 90 to 120 minute walk in the spectacular sliver of a park that is Riverside Park. The distillation part is challenging but, it is the key to not overwhelming you with information thus making the expedition interesting and memorable (right Mitch??). That is why going forward there will be a charge for the curated walks.
I would love for you to be on one of these inaugural walks and would VERY MUCH APPRECIATE YOUR SUPPORT. Click here to sign up. (Details below and space is limited).
CURATED ART & PARK WALK. Grab your ticket and let’s GO!
There is ART! In Riverside Park! Let’s GO see it! Join arts educator Joyce and Linda (me!) as we visit the public art exhibit in Riverside Park titled: “Re:Growth.” Learn about the creation and history of Riverside Park (a work of art unto itself) as we visit and learn about 8 of the artistic installations. The exhibit closes on September 12th so this is one of your final opportunities to see and learn more about it!
We have two experiences on offer: Thursday, September 9th OR Friday, September 10th – both starting @ 10:00am. Our time together will last approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. There will be quite a bit of walking (and talking) with some stairs and a few hills. Wear comfortable shoes. Tickets are $60.00.

September 12th Wanderlust Brooklyn… A Mindful Triathlon in Prospect Park Who’s with me? This event will kick off at 10am with founder of The Class Taryn Toomey teaching, well “The Class” but of course! (I am still The Class obsessed to read about my thoughts on this form of exercise click here. This is followed by a yoga class and the whole thing culminates with a group meditation. Talk about getting into a blissful New York State of mind. Let’s all get mindful together. Click here to grab a spot for you and your mat.
Cheers to you and your New York State of Mind and all you do in support of NYC!
